Our judge for the evening was George Steele from our neighbouring camera club 'Bury Photographic Society'. George gave useful tips as well as marking our images and he had a tough job in deciding which images were the best on the evening. I entered the maximum allowed number of two images to give myself a chance at a trophy for 2014 as this was the last PDI competition for the year.
My 1st image was 'Montserrat Basilica' which was taken in Barcelona on my summer holiday with the family. A visit up the cable car to the top of a mountain found this outstanding basilica, I took a low vantage point to capture and frame the scene with the archway above, this low take also gives the isle a different view point.
My second image below was also taken on the same Spanish holiday and was captured whilst travelling on the Metro system between stations on the outskirts of Barcelona, I named it 'The Proverbial Light' as that's what came to mind when I played the image back on the camera after checking the histogram had confirmed a good exposure.
Anyway George went through the images and I sadly missed out on first place with my tunnel shot 'The Proverbial Light' on the right, it was awarded 18 points and came a credible 3rd place out of 33 images. However the judge as always saves the best images until last and gave 1st place to my 'Montserrat Basilica' above, a superb result.
After all 5 rounds of the PDI section for advanced workers I came a credible second place, just missed out by two points to the worthy winner for this section Richard Towell. I still am in with a chance in the printed competition and that will be decided on the 16th October 2014 were i am currently lying in 3rd place from the top being just 3 points behind the leader a Mr Richard Towell!
